AMD offers winners of Intel’s Core i7-8086K contest a 16-core Threadripper CPU instead - gilmanskiner

If you're i of the lucky 8,086 mass who won a limited-edition 5GHz Core i7-8086K CPU from Intel, AMD says IT has better offer for you: Its offering 40 masses WHO won the 8086K a straight-up exchange for a 16-core Threadripper 1950X CPU.

This all started when Intel announced a limited-edition Burnt umber Lake S-based 5GHz Meat i7-8086K to celebrate the 40th day of remembrance of its first Mainframe: the 8086. Besides marketing the limited-edition chip, Intel also ran a contest to grass 8,086 of the CPUs.

Now AMD is throwing shade.

"Our rival recently kicked off a sweepstakes to lionize the first 40 old age of the x86 processor past openhanded away 8,086 limited edition processors," AMD officials said in post. "We appreciate the advancements they've helped drive with the x86 architecture over the last four decades. But, we're ready to take IT from here. That's why we're giving 40 carrying into action-hungry enthusiasts in the U.S. an chance to celebrate the adjacent 40 years of high-performance computing by trading in their commemorative processor select for our CPU that enables you to work, caper and make over with heavy metal."

If you won a Nub i7-8086K would you trade it for a Threadripper?

So much snark

If you didn't understand AMD's promulgation closely you might have missed the snark, only make no mistake, it's crafted for maximum disrespect: In essence, AMD attaches the Core i7-8086K to the last 40 geezerhood, and positions Threadripper as the forward-looking alternative.

Naturally, AMD goes on to answer the obvious question: "Wherefore would I want a Ryzen Threadripper 1950X?"

"We'll let the numbers racket make out the speaking: 16 cores. 32 threads. 64 PCIe Gen3 lanes. 40MB memory cache. Involve more? Unrestrained operation for complete your workloads," says the company, in the most hater vocalism possible.

The rivalry betwixt Intel and AMD has been heating up since AMD's first Ryzen C.P.U. was released last year.

Nitty-gritty i7-8086K vs. Threadripper 1950X

If you're wondering which CPU would win, our own tests of the Threadripper 1950X versus the Core i7-8700K, which the Core i7-8086K is settled on, is inconclusive. Each excels in sealed tasks. On that point's one measure that's indisputable, however: political economy.

Today, you bathroom notic the 5GHz Core i7-8086K for $425, while the 16-core Threadripper 1950X goes for $800.

Exchange details

To do the exchange, AMD says you have to be 18 and sleep in the United States. You'll also need to enter to win. And no kids, this doesn't mean you can buy a retail 8086K and enter—AMD says the contest is only open to those World Health Organization won the Intel CPU American Samoa part of the cardinal-day giveaway. AMD's own contest for the exchange will occur on June 25 at 1 p.m. EDT.

Granted, AMD's contest ISN't every bit generous as Intel's, which gave away around $3.5 million deserving of CPUs, but that's clearly not AMD's point. Instead AMD is taking the tack that tad thrown is better than shade non thrown.
